Chosen Care Group update on the Coronavirus (COVID-19)
As the UK Continues to adapt its strategic position and policy in regard to COVID-19, We want to outline Chosen Care Group absolute commitment to ensuring, we maintain the health and safety of our clients, care / support workers, Nurses, and staff.
The health and well-being of our service users, professional care teams and office colleagues is our utmost priority amidst the uncertainty that we are all facing due to the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus). We understand that for our service users and their family members these are very worrying times. We want to reassure you by sharing the measures we are taking to ensure the continued safety of our service users and colleagues.
Chosen Care is focused and committed on how we can help
We are 100% committed to reducing and minimising the transmission of infection. We understand that we have a responsibility to ensure our colleagues follow evidenced-based techniques to control and prevent the spread of infection, and that they continue to support our service users as best they can during this incredibly challenging time.
We continue to ensure all colleagues have access to reliable information to reduce anxiety and dispel any myths that may cause worry or distress.
We are ensuring that our professional care teams follow the below procedures:
Wear single-use disposable aprons and gloves for every single visit
Wash hands frequently with soap and water, this includes when entering and leaving service users homes as well before and after providing care
Covering the mouth and nose with a tissue while sneezing or coughing
Not using cloth handkerchiefs or reusing tissues
Disposing of used tissues promptly and carefully (bag and bin them)
Washing hard surfaces (e.g. worktops, doorknobs) with appropriate strength domestic cleaner regularly. Normal household detergent and water will be used to clean surfaces
Avoiding unnecessary travel
Avoiding crowds, and comply with social distancing
All colleagues will self-isolate should they or a member of their household show any symptoms
We will stay informed and follow the latest advice given by 111, GPs, Public Health England and the government
Our Managers have reviewed and tested their business continuity plans and we continue to frequently review our staffing levels and service provision on a daily basis. In addition, all service users have been risk rated based on their vulnerability. We know who our most vulnerable users are and when appropriate we will prioritise their care.
If a care worker finds that a service user complains of symptoms, we have instructed carers to:
Make sure our service users are safe and withdraw from the room
Immediately wash their hands and avoid touching the face, nose, mouth or eyes
Contact 111 for advice or 999 if an emergency
Contact Chosen Care Group as soon as possible and advise of the situation
Not to attend any other clients, visit their GP or travel in the community until advice is sought
Whilst they wait for advice from NHS 111 or an ambulance to arrive, staff should remain at least 2 metres from other people
If they need to go to the bathroom whilst waiting for medical assistance, they should use a separate bathroom if available. This will apply only to the period of time while waiting for transport to hospital
We utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to safely provide care to service users that have symptoms associated with or have been diagnosed with the virus.
What can you do to help prevent the spread of Coronavirus disease?
The main signs of coronavirus infection are fever (high temperature) and a cough as well as shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.
Being aware of these symptoms can help flag if a family member or friend may have the virus and need to self-isolate or seek medical help.
Avoid visiting elderly relatives, and if you do, make sure to keep 2 metres distance and thoroughly wash your hands for 20 seconds as soon as you come in.
Check in on elderly neighbours and family members, seeing if they need help with food shopping can really help someone unable to go outside at the moment.
Keeping elderly people up to date with the latest developments may help those who are feeling lost and confused, especially if they do not use the internet.
At Chosen Care Group we are actively seeking advice from Public Health England enabling us to prepare as the situation evolves, and we will make sure to update you with any changes to our plans.
